Let’s celebrate National Black Business Month!

This month honors black owned businesses and entrepreneurs around the world. Social media has allowed black creatives to grow and showcase their skill in the business world. Many creatives made a foundation for their business through marketing strategies and incentives from their supporters. Being a business owner may be a slow start for others as they discover their target audience. Black business owners are held to different standards due to systemic racism and racial injustice that places a target on them permanently.

Know Your Roots

Black owned businesses are filled with innovative creatives who share the goal of giving back to their community. They thrive by being guests at pop up events and festivals that provide the audience for them to market their products. Having a supportive community only strengthens the unity that minorities seek from one another.

The founders, Frederick E. Jordan and John William Templeton, realized the decline black business owners have experienced. Movements such as the Wall Street Crash have prevented black people from maintaining their business safely. They founded National Black Business Month in 2004 to enforce policies meant to protect black business owners. Black businesses have flourished as early as the 1700s in the entertainment, music and cuisine industries. They continue to have lasting impacts in sales and entrepreneurship.

Being an Authentic and Accountable Business

Business owners tend to value profit and their image over community. Some of them see entrepreneurship as ‘easy money’ and use their skills as a quick side hustle. This prevents smaller businesses from building a connection with their audience if corrupt businesses gain more traction than theirs. A company being misunderstood only puts them in a worse position to grow if they lack the support from their consumers.
